Privacy Policy

This English version is provided for convenience. If there is any inconsistency between this English version and the Japanese version, the Japanese version shall prevail.

Vidot (the “Service”) respects your privacy and handles information according to the policy below. The Service has no servers of its own that store or manage the data you create (videos, captions, etc.); that data is stored only on your device. On the other hand, some information is processed by external services: Apple and RevenueCat for purchasing and restoring Premium, and Mixpanel for analyzing usage to improve the app (all described below). This policy explains these separately.

1. Information stored only on your device (never sent externally)

The following information that you create or enter in the Service is stored only on your device, and its content is never sent to any external server.

• Short video clips you capture
• Caption text
• Metadata such as capture date and time and orientation
• Collections, sort order, and app settings

* For usage analytics (Section 4), only the types and counts of actions (such as “saved a clip”) and a few setting values such as appearance mode and language are sent. The content itself — videos, captions, collection names — is never sent.

2. Access to device features

To provide its features, the Service may ask for access to the following device features. The data handled here is never sent externally.

• Camera and microphone: to record short videos with audio
• Photo library: to add past videos and photos to Vidot, and to save videos you capture to the Photos app (both optional)
• Notifications: to send reminders to capture (optional; these are local notifications handled entirely on your device, without going through our servers)

3. Information processed by external services for purchases

To purchase, restore, and manage Premium (monthly subscription / one-time purchase), the following external services process information. Payment itself is handled by Apple; we never obtain or store payment information such as credit card numbers.

Apple (App Store)

Purchases, billing, auto-renewal, and refunds are processed through the App Store and are handled in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy.

RevenueCat

The Service uses the SDK of RevenueCat, Inc. (USA) to manage and restore purchase status. RevenueCat processes a random anonymous ID used to manage purchases without sign-in, purchase and subscription status, and technical device information (OS version, device type, country/region, etc.). Your name, email address, and the videos and captions you capture are never sent to RevenueCat. For details, see RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.

4. Information processed by external services for usage analytics

To improve the Service, we use the analytics service of Mixpanel, Inc. (USA) to understand how the app is used. Only the following kinds of information, which do not identify you or the content of your records, are sent.

• Anonymous random ID: an identifier generated per installation, never linked to your name, email address, or similar
• Types and counts of actions: the types, counts, and numbers of clips for actions such as “opened the app,” “saved a clip,” “played a vlog,” and “created a collection”
• Basic app and device information: app version, OS type and version, language, appearance mode (dark / light), and whether Premium is in use
• Approximate region: country and city estimated from the IP address at the time of communication (we do not access your device’s location)

This information is used only to understand and improve how the Service is used, and never for advertising. For details on how Mixpanel handles data, see Mixpanel’s Privacy Policy.

* The Service does not use any advertising SDKs. It does not collect the advertising identifier (IDFA) or track you across other companies’ apps or websites.

5. Where information is stored, and backups

Data such as the videos and captions you capture is all stored on your device.

• iOS: the app’s dedicated storage on your device
• Saving to the Photos app (optional): if you turn this on in Settings, or save a video when exporting, a copy is also placed in the Photos app on your device
• iCloud Backup: if iCloud Backup is enabled on your iPhone, the Service’s data is automatically included as part of the standard iOS device backup (for all users, free or Premium). This is a mechanism provided by Apple, and data on iCloud is handled in accordance with Apple’s Privacy Policy. We never access your data on iCloud. The Service has no sync or cloud storage of its own

We have no servers or databases that store or manage your video data.

6. Sharing with third parties

We never provide or sell the data you create (videos, captions, etc.) to third parties. As described above, Apple and RevenueCat process information to the extent necessary to handle and manage purchases, and Mixpanel processes information to the extent necessary for usage analytics. These are service providers that enable each feature, and we do not share information with third parties for advertising purposes, except where disclosure is required by law.

7. Deleting your data

You can delete your data at any time using features within the Service.

• Delete individual clips in the app
• Delete all data at once in the app

Uninstalling the app also deletes all data stored on your device. Data included in an iCloud backup can be deleted from Apple’s settings (Settings > Apple ID > iCloud). If you would like purchase records on RevenueCat or usage data on Mixpanel deleted, please contact us using the contact information below.

8. Changes to this Privacy Policy

This policy may be changed as necessary. The revised policy takes effect when it is posted in the Service or on our website.
